With all that is happening, 2020 is a year memorable for everyone. We were all taken by surprise of all that’s happening right now. With the COVID -19 situation and all its implications, we are are not ready. Businesses are close, no transportation, there’s a social distancing, curfews, people are only allowed to go outside for necessities and many more.
UNEMPLOYMENT AND ONLINE WORK
Today, we are experiencing a lot that we did not experience before that we coined the term “new normal” because we never knew how long this should last or if this is how the world will be from now on. Due to all of this, a lot of people were not able to work or worst lost their jobs. The financial security for having a stable job is gone.
NEW OPPORTUNITY: GETTING A JOB ONLINE
Among the changes we have right now is the shifting to digital platforms. For example, brick and mortar stores shift to e-Commerce, people work from home, we do meetings online. All these are happening because of the need to adapt and this could be an opportunity for all of us.
Many have shifted to online work and a lot have wanted to go in that direction as well. But how can we do that? How can we have the confidence to shift from a corporate job to a freelance or online job? How can we market ourselves in the online world of freelancing?
HAVING THE RIGHT SKILL SET
Now could be the perfect time to assess where we are now with our skills. Is it still applicable in the job market? Do you need to improve further on your current skill? Do you have to consider learning a new one? What more can we offer that will apply to the current situation or the needs of the online community. With the uncertainties of our jobs, our source of income, the competition in applying for jobs, this could be the perfect opportunity of diversifying our portfolios by upgrading our skills or learning new ones.
WHAT IS UPSKILLING AND RESKILLING?
According to the US Cambridge dictionary, upskilling means to learn new skills or to teach new skills, whereas, reskilling is the process of learning a new skill so that you can do a different job.
WHY YOUR SKILLS WILL BE YOUR TICKET IN LANDING AN ONLINE JOB
With a lot of businesses shifting online, that could be the perfect direction to go. There are a lot of opportunities in the online world and if we want to be a part of it, we need to improve ourselves and build a portfolio that paves the way to the online job market.
HOW TO BUILD YOUR FREELANCING PORTFOLIO WITH UPSKILLING AND RESKILLING?
There are a lot of ways on how we can improve and discover new skills. With the internet, learning has no boundaries. There are a lot of sites that offer courses that you can use as an online freelancer. Diversifying your portfolios means you have a lot more to offer to clients and businesses.
